Topic: From Drawings to Project — The Full Takeoff-to-Estimate Workflow in Contractor Foreman

Webinar Description

In this advanced training session, César Macedo walks through one of the most time-intensive processes in construction — taking a set of drawings and turning them into a complete, cost-coded estimate — and shows how the Takeoff tool in Contractor Foreman compresses that workflow from hours of manual measurement into a streamlined, end-to-end process: drawings, quantities, estimate, project.

César opens by setting honest expectations about the Takeoff tool, which is currently available in preview. It is not magic — uploading drawings does not instantly produce a finished estimate. What it does is reduce friction and speed up the measurement work, giving experienced estimators a faster way to capture quantities and a smarter starting point for building their bids. He frames the AI inside the tool as a new estimator who needs to be directed: the better you understand what you need, the better the results you’ll get from it.

The session walks through the full workflow live. César starts by uploading a PDF drawing set into the Takeoff module, where the AI automatically reads, categorizes, and labels each sheet by discipline — architectural, structural, electrical, and so on. From there, he demonstrates how to set the drawing scale, use the AI panel to run area, linear, and count measurements, and leverage the AI chat to ask for specific quantities using natural language prompts. He shows how the tool handles multiple drawing disciplines, how to correct automatic categorizations, and how to organize takeoff results into named tables that correspond to sections of the estimate.

The second half of the session covers the export and import step — the bridge between the Takeoff module and the Estimate module. César walks through how to export takeoff data using the Contractor Foreman–formatted CSV, which is pre-structured to import directly into the estimate without manual reformatting. He covers the one required adjustment (mapping item type labels to CF shortcodes like MTL, LBR, and EQUIP), and shows how to apply bulk markup, assign cost codes, and add scope of work language pulled directly from the takeoff — so that by the time the estimate is approved and the project is created, the financial structure is already built and categorized.

Attendees were offered a complimentary one-on-one training session for follow-up questions on the Takeoff tool or the estimating workflow.

This session is ideal for:

  • Estimators and project managers who currently do takeoffs manually or in a separate tool and want to bring that work inside Contractor Foreman
  • Teams who have used the Takeoff tool to measure quantities but haven’t yet connected it to the estimate and project creation workflow
  • Contractors looking to reduce the time between receiving drawings and submitting a bid
  • Anyone who attended the April 10th Takeoff session and wants to see the full end-to-end workflow including the estimate import step
