Topic: Cost Code Discipline and Time Card Accuracy — The Hidden Profit Lever in Contractor Foreman

Webinar Description

In this advanced training session, Taha draws on his background as a licensed mechanical engineer and former project manager to tackle one of the most overlooked challenges in construction: understanding where your labor dollars are actually going — and whether your jobs are truly profitable.

Rather than covering how to set up cost codes from scratch, this session goes deeper — exploring the real-world consequences of not using cost codes and time cards correctly, and showing what contractors stand to gain when they use them with discipline. Taha explains that for most construction companies, labor is where the largest profit margin lives, yet it is also the area most commonly left untracked, estimated loosely, or allocated as a flat overhead expense rather than tied to specific projects and cost categories.

The session walks through how estimates in Contractor Foreman define both the project budget and the cost code structure, and how time cards — when properly assigned to projects and cost codes — feed directly into the Job Cost Actual Report, giving project managers a real-time view of estimated versus actual labor spend. Taha covers how to review this data effectively, how to catch cost overruns before they compound, and how to use the system’s reporting tools to identify which types of work are consistently profitable and which may need to be re-estimated or reconsidered altogether.

The session also addresses common configuration questions that came up live, including the difference between cost codes and cost items, how to manage the cost item database, geofencing settings for time card accuracy, and daily log prompts for field teams. César Macedo joined to support the Q&A and walk through several of these settings in detail.

Attendees were offered a complimentary one-on-one training session to go deeper on any topic covered in the webinar.

This session is ideal for:

  • Contractors who are using time cards but not seeing useful data in their job cost reports
  • Project managers looking to track labor profitability at the cost code level
  • Business owners who want to understand which jobs and work types are actually making money
  • Teams managing field staff who need guidance on geofencing, clock-in accuracy, and daily log workflows
