Create a Ticket Schedule a Training

In Contractor Foreman, a Work Order cannot be used as a standalone project. Every Work Order must be tied to an existing project in order to function properly within the system. This ensures that costs, labor, materials, and other items are tracked consistently across all reports.

What can you do instead?

If you want to manage a small job, for example, repairing a fence, installing a single window, or completing a minor service request, you should use a Service Ticket or still create a Project first. Once the project is created, you can then add a Work Order to capture the specific scope of work.

This way you get:

  • Accurate cost tracking tied back to the project.

  • Flexibility to add more Work Orders later if the client requests additional work.

  • Consistent reporting across all projects, big or small.

Think of the Project as the container, and the Work Orders as the tasks or scopes of work inside that container. Even if it’s just a small project, setting it up properly will keep your records clean and your reports accurate.
