There are two ways to create a Gantt chart for a project, which are: creating a Gantt chart from the approved estimate or creating a Gantt chart manually.

Creating a Gantt chart from the Approved Estimate

If the Estimate status gets updated to “Approved” manually, you’ll get the option to create a schedule from your Approved Estimate line items. If you choose that option, all of your Estimate line items will be converted into tasks on the Gantt chart of the Project.

However, if the Estimate was approved online by the customer, a Gantt chart will not be created automatically from the Approved Estimate and you will not get the option to create a schedule from the Approved Estimate. Nevertheless, you can move your Estimate status back to “Estimating”, and move it back to “Approved” to get the option to create a schedule from the Approved Estimate. The below video, will show you an Estimate that has been approved and its Project, which originally does not have a Gantt Chart, then the Estimate status will be changed from “Approved” to “Estimating” and back to “Approved”, in order to have the option to generate the Gantt Chart.

Creating a Gantt chart manually for a Project

Once you have a project created, go to the Schedule module and select that Project from the Project list using the “Projects” button on the top left of the Gantt chart.

Once you select your new project and click Save, a popup window will appear asking for a Start Date and an End Date for your project. The date period you enter will be considered as the project duration to create the Gantt chart. Once you enter a date period and proceed, a Gantt chart will be created with a single task with the time period you’ve entered as the project duration. Don’t worry! you can always customize your project’s start date, end date, and duration on the Gantt chart.

How to create tasks and Subtasks on a Gantt chart?

You can create new tasks for the project by clicking the + icon in front of the project name.

You can enter the task name, and a description and assign the task to contractors and/or employees. You can also update the progress of the task, assign a color, and set the scheduled/planned date and duration from this window. And finally, click Save to add your task to the Gantt chart.
You can also create sub-tasks under your main tasks by clicking the + icon in front of the main task and entering details as same as above.
