Adding and managing permits in Contractor Foreman ensures your projects stay compliant and organized. Here’s how you can create a new permit and why it matters.

Creating a New Permit

  • Go to the Permits Module from your main menu.

  • On the Permits Dashboard, click on + Permit.

  • A popup window will open on the right. Fill in the following fields:

    • Project (mandatory) – Select the project the permit belongs to.

    • Permit # (mandatory) – Enter the official permit number.

    • Type (mandatory) – Identify the permit type (e.g., Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Marshall, Waterproofing). In order to add a new permit type, type it and hit enter.

    • Fee (optional) – Record the cost of the permit. Note: Fees do not feed into financials.

    • Agency – Indicate the issuing or inspecting authority (e.g., city inspections, fire marshal).

  • Click Create Permit. You’ll be redirected to the Permit Record screen.

Key Permit Record Fields (Details Tab)

  • Pulled Date – When the permit was issued. Useful for compliance timelines.

  • Approved Date – Confirms the permit passed review and is valid.

  • Expires Date – Tracks when the permit will no longer be valid.

  • Must Be Pulled By Date – Deadline to secure the permit before work begins.

  • Referenced Inspections – Links the permit to its related inspections for easy backtracking.

Additional Sections

  • Files Tab – Upload a scanned copy of the permit. This reduces the risk of misplacing or damaging the original when visiting job sites.

  • Notes Tab – Keep internal comments or coordination notes for your team.

Why Electronic Permits Matter

Storing permits electronically in Contractor Foreman is more than just convenience. It:

  • Protects critical documents from damage or loss.

  • Allows your field team to access permits instantly from anywhere.

  • Creates a centralized record, helping you stay compliant with local regulations.

  • Simplifies backtracking during inspections or audits.
