Updates to the Cost Item Database (CIDB)

The Cost Item Database (CIDB) has been enhanced with several new features designed to make item management more flexible, efficient, and transparent. These updates not only improve the CIDB itself but also pave the way for more powerful item-specific features in other modules, such as Estimates.

Product Images in CIDB Items

You can now add product images to items in the Cost Item Database. This is a foundational step toward enabling richer item-specific features across Contractor Foreman, such as making estimates more visual and informative.

Adding images to items helps users quickly identify materials, reduces confusion, and creates a more professional presentation when sharing reports with clients.

Bulk Markup for Select Items

Previously, bulk markup could only be applied to the entire CIDB. With this update, users can now apply bulk markup to specific items within the database.

This gives you greater control and precision in managing costs, ensuring that adjustments can be made only where needed instead of across the board.

Copy Items in CIDB

The new Copy This Item feature makes it possible to quickly duplicate an existing item. This is especially useful when you need to create variations of a cost item without starting from scratch.

For example, if you have a base material with multiple sizes or finishes, you can copy the item and make only the necessary adjustments, saving time and ensuring consistency.

New Markup Equation View in Cost Item Record

A new Markup Equation view has been added to cost item records. This view allows users to easily see how the total price of an item is calculated, including the effects of hidden markup (Hidden MU) and visible markup (MU).

By displaying these details, the equation view gives greater transparency and helps teams verify calculations at a glance.

Why These Updates Matter

Together, these improvements make the CIDB more powerful and user-friendly. By introducing images, selective markups, item duplication, and clearer markup calculations, Contractor Foreman enables users to:

  • Save time by reducing repetitive data entry.

  • Improve accuracy in cost management.

  • Increase transparency in pricing for both internal teams and clients.

  • Build a stronger foundation for enhanced item-specific features in future updates.

These enhancements represent another step forward in making Contractor Foreman a comprehensive and flexible tool for managing project costs.
