When marking up items in Contractor Foreman, whether you’re working on estimates, invoices, or other financial documents, you have two options for applying a markup to each line item: by percentage (%) or by dollar amount ($). Here’s the difference between the two:

1. Percentage (%) Markup:

This method allows you to apply a percentage markup based on the cost of the item.

Example: If you enter a cost of $1,000 and choose a 10% markup, Contractor Foreman will automatically calculate a markup of $100, making the total price $1,100.

Use this when you know the percentage you want to mark up over the cost and want Contractor Foreman to calculate the final total for you.

2. Dollar ($) Markup:

This method allows you to manually set the final total price, and Contractor Foreman will calculate the markup percentage for you.

Example: If the item cost is $1,000 and you want the final price to be $1,230, you enter $1,230 as the total price. Contractor Foreman will then calculate and display a 23% markup.

Use this when you have a target final price in mind and need Contractor Foreman to calculate the corresponding markup percentage based on that final price.
